Meet Dr Ram
Meet Dr Ramana Dhannapuneni who is Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool as well as Lead Cardiac Surgeon for Healing Little Hearts.
Our medical staff are the essence of our charity. Without them we are unable to carry out our objectives to save children’s lives across the developing world.
How did you become part of HLH?
I first became involved with HLH in 2009 through the consultant I was working with. Since 2012, I led about 16 camps to India and Tanzania and operated on over 175 children and became an integral part of HLH team.
What does HLH means to you?
HLH means a lot to me. It provides me with an excellent opportunity to save the lives of desperate children with congenital heart defects and serve the humanity as a highly skilled paediatric cardiac surgeon. I am proud of being a HLH volunteer and a member of HLH team.
What do you get from HLH and how does it impacts on your life?
HLH provides me with immense satisfaction and fulfilment in life. Words cannot describe the satis-faction I get by attending these camps and being able to help several children and their families. Though extremely busy involving heavy work these camps are thoroughly enjoyable.
It is a lot of work organising these camps, continuously supporting centres and finding new places but it is a well worthy cause. The camps gave me an excellent opportunity to make new and very valuable friends, professional networking, team building. Operating on children with advanced pathology, with inadequate facilities, in unfamiliar circumstances gave me an opportunity to innovate my surgical techniques and also to become a better surgeon.
